Michael Liu, CEO of CompuPacific International (CPI), fills a leadership role for the fourth consecutive year at an outsourcing conference his company helped develop. Liu is among speakers featured at the Fourth Global Sourcing Summit in Xi'an, a technology hub where CPI has a production center. The Nov. 8-9 business development event, sponsored by the government, focuses on service sourcing advantages of China and Xi'an. As a pioneering provider of Business Process Outsourcing support from Xi'an Software Park, Liu will discuss new partnerships with the domestic and international banking industry. Case study examples are presented to show how CompuPacific helps banks raise profit margins by reducing operational costs, while also re-engineering processes to speed transactions. "BPO support for the financial services industry includes credit card and loan processing, account maintenance, mortgage coordination, customer service call centers and other contributions that let banks use the most advanced technologies and concentrate on core competencies," says Liu. His illustrated presentation also examined Chinese BPO advantages for Western companies, such as a growing talent pool of highly skilled workers and low labor costs. Other benefits include superior telecommunication and electric infrastructure, certified quality standards and geographic diversity for companies using service suppliers in India. CompuPacific has worked with clients in China, Australia, Europe and North America since 1998. In addition to serving banks and brokerage houses, more than 1,000 employees at four CompuPacific locations in China handle projects involving health care, insurance, manufacturing, customer relationship management, publishing, creative services and government. Liu, an American-educated entrepreneur who relocated back to China this year, was among organizers of the first China International BPO Conference in 2004. He spoke during that inaugural event and at each of the next two conferences in Xi'an. As the city's outsourcing industry expanded and gained wider recognition, so has the annual summit. "This education and networking event lets suppliers and end users exchange ideas, success stories and collaborative support," says Liu. "It's also an productive setting for meeting new business prospects, requesting proposals and opening venture capital discussions." This week's agenda includes worldwide outsourcing trends, intellectual property protections, security safeguards and new sourcing opportunities in Xi'an. Panel discussions, white papers and speeches are presented in English at this gathering of government leaders, service providers, consultants and end users. The two-day event is at the Shangri-La Hotel in the financial district of the GaoXin Hi-Tech Development Zone. The conference theme is "Sharpen Your Edge: Collaborate with China and with Xi'an." It's organized with support from Shaanxi Province and two national government ministries – Commerce and Information Industry. The host city, China's third-largest science and technology center, calls itself "China's Service Outsourcing Capital." Xi'an is about 1,100 kilometers southwest of Beijing.
