Huawei has revealed how its management structure will alter when founder Ren Zhengfei eventually retires.

According to a Reuters report on Wednesday, he will be replaced by a leadership team and not an individual.

"I can clearly tell everyone here that in the future the successor to Mr Ren will not just be one person," Eric Xu, executive vice president of Huawei, said in the report.

Since April 2012, the Chinese equipment maker has used a rotating CEO system that sees one of three top-ranking executives take on the job for six months at a time. Guo Ping stepped up to the role again at the beginning of April, taking over from Eric Xu; the other is Ken Hu. Ren meanwhile maintains his position as permanent CEO.

Several members of Ren’s family hold high-ranking positions at Huawei; however, according to an internal letter that emerged in April 2013, Ren told his employees that none of them possess the requisite qualities to become his successor and therefore would not be considered for the role.

Meanwhile, in a separate Reuters report on Wednesday, Huawei’s chief marketing officer Shao Yang said the company plans to spend $300 million on global marketing in 2014.

Its ambition is to improve its brand perception in a bid to help drive sales of mid-to-high-end smartphones.

In 2013, Huawei shipped 52 million smartphones, up from 32 million in 2012.
