China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is likely to assign two 1800MHz band units, 1755-1785MHz and 1850-1880MHz, to China Telecom and two 2100MHz band units, 1955-1980MHz and 2145-2170MHz, to China United Network Communications (China Unicom) for operating FDD (frequency division duplexing-Long Term Evolution) mobile communication services, according to China-based cn-comm.com.

MIIT has also assigned 2600MHz band units with total bandwidth of 190MHz to China Mobile for operating TD-LTE (time division-LTE), a China-developed version of LTE, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

For 4G operation, China Telecom, the only WCDMA mobile telecom carrier in China, and China Unicom, the only CDMA 2000 mobile telecom carrier in China, are expected to adopt FDD-LTE due to technological compatibility, www.cn-comm.com noted. However, China Telecom and China Unicom are most likely to adopt TD-LTE as auxiliary 4G operation through using China Mobile’s TD-LTE infrastructure on lease to comply with China government policies of developing TD-LTE.

China Telecom will benefit from operating FDD-LTE on 1800MHz band units because there are many 1800MHz FDD-LTE networks in commercial operation around the world and therefore many COE (central office equipment) and CPE (customer premises equipment) models developed based on 1800MHz have been made available.
